Oaklands Court, Shepherds Bush, London
Catalyst Housing Group commissioned Monahan Blythen Architects to design a high density housing scheme on a prominent site on Uxbridge Road in Shepherds Bush that had been vacant for over thirty years. The design comprises 45 dwellings; 37 are flats, 6 family maisonettes and there are 2 houses. Twelve of the dwellings are ‘Shared Ownership’ and the remaining 33 homes are ‘General Needs Affordable’ rented accommodation. The overall density is 656 habitable rooms to the hectare. As 68% of all of the accommodation is for families, the scheme incorporates dedicated amenity and landscaped open space, which includes a large communal rooftop landscaped garden and a children’s playground. Every dwelling has a large balcony, and the larger family dwellings have private roof terraces or private gardens.
