Fitzrovia Community Centre, Fitzrovia, London.
University College Hospital Foundation Trust were required, as a planning condition of their new hospital, to provide a new 4,000 sq ft community centre for the Fitzrovia neighbourhood in Central London. UCLH identified the basement and a section of the ground floor of their nursing home as surplus to their requirements.
As the allocated space housed the main heating and electrical services serving the nursing home extensive enabling works first had to be undertaken.
The new £1.1m community facility is designed to cater for a variety of users and potential activities and contains catering facilities and the rear yard has been transformed into a external play area for the crêche that occupies part of the facility.
